ESWC - Sinan Karaca: How to build extreme installers

Event type: Conference

Date: 2006-11-04

Sinan Karaca works for InstallAware, a company which provides software to build installers for other software.

If NSIS [which I used for the installer on DataCocoon] / InnoSoft work for you then that's fine.

However, if you're building MSI installers, InstallAware is all you'll need.

MSI installers are needed to use the Windows logo on your product. InstallAware will ensure you meet the requirements.

It's good for businesses as they can roll out MSI packages automatically

InstallAware makes it easy to deploy common runtimes [e.g. the .Net runtime] and optionally download the runtime [or other components] from web. Selecting one of the runtime options automatically includes system dependencies.

The Dialog editor means you can easily add things like surveying the user while they are installing the software

Sinan then gave a very slick and impressive demo of InstallAware.

Lots of pre-built, point-and-click options, but you also have access to all the code for their script so you can choose to customise anything.

Can migrate from any other installer to InstallAware easily.

Dialog editor looks very powerful - you can embed animations, HTML controls and even flash movies into your installer.
