Acoustic Cafe at The Bun Shop
Acoustic Cafe at The Bun Shop

Event type: Concert
Date: 2007-06-11
It was a gloriously warm summer evening; a slight cooling breeze blowing through the open door of the Bun Shop as we sat listening to the sultry voice of Pamela Givens. Live jazz and swing in an intimate venue was most relaxing and enjoyable.
First up were Sky West and Crooked, a duo with a bit of a bluesy-edge who unfortunately don't seem to have a web presence. Then came Pamela, backed by a couple of her friends - one of whom is a band-mate from her funk persona, Acuphuncture. The evening was rounded off with a short set from resident artist (from what I could tell) Bernard Hoskin.
Each set featured a combination of covers and original material, with the covered artists ranging from Dylan to Billie Holiday, Sinatra to Cyndi Lauper.
The Acoustic Cafe visits the Bun Shop every other Monday, and is the perfect way to recover from a stressful first day back at work. Pamela's next outing is a funk gig at La Raza (remember to try the cocktails - they do a mean caipirinha) on 11th July, which sadly we'll miss, as we'll be in Turin by then.
