Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. @ The Soul Tree

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. Gig

Event type: Concert

Date: 2006-09-27

Last Wednesday, in a break from getting tedium finished, I went to see Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. play the Soul Tree.

The gig was a sell-out and there was a great atmosphere in the place. Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly's songs are a bit mellow and so didn't lend themselves too well to a gig where I was flagging towards the end. I really needed something upbeat at that point, but still enjoyed The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager and the Steve Miller Band cover encore.

The highlight of the night for me was one of the support acts. Keith, a standard-ish indie guitar band were alright, but nothing special - even with the bongo playing lead singer; Metronomy however were excellent.

I wasn't sure what to make of them at first, with their beginners Yamaha keyboards and dome lights stuck to the front of their t-shirts. Their electronic sound was rounded out with a collection of other instruments - guitars, sax and even a melodica - and backed up by a trusty Apple Mac; and their stage presence had an amateur-Kraftwerk-wannabe feel to it. By the end of their set I'd been totally won over by their synchronized stage moves and catchy bleep-beats.

I definitely recommend catching them live. Just take a few AAA batteries with you, in case they have problems with their "chest" lights.
