About

A new design for the site is as good a time as any to update the About page. And a dozen years after the last one some things are the same and, as you’d expect, some have changed.

I’m still a creative-, and criticial-, technologist. Still based in Liverpool, in North-West England. I’m interested in how we can use technology to make life better, and more fun, for all of us; and increasingly exploring how the political side of that can build and wield power to make that so.

I run MCQN Ltd where we “connect strange things to the Internet”. That mostly means electronics and software—both projects/contract work for others and our own products. The products include Museum in a Box, My Bike’s Got LED, and the Vicino NFC hardware. We’re big fans of open-source and open-source hardware.

I work out of the co-working, makerspace and events space DoES Liverpool, that I co-founded.

Although there’s still a picture of my old Integrale on the homepage of this site, I haven’t owned a car since I (sadly) sold it in 2018 and hadn’t driven for about five years before that. These days I get about by bike and train.

There is much cycling. Every Friday evening a bunch of us gather for a group social ride around Liverpool with a soundsystem. I’ve slowly been working on my video skills to document some of the rides.

I’m also slowly working on learning Italian, having started when I lived in Torino for a year before the move to Liverpool.
